Update from Kim’s Husband: Holding Pattern

Standard

Hi! I’m Kim’s husband. Blogging duties have been delegated to me until further notice. 🙂

The good news is that Kim is doing quite well. In fact, I would say she’s doing remarkable. Kim doesn’t brag on herself in this space; but since I’m writing, I’m more than happy to make up for it!

I can’t imagine someone possibly handling this situation better than Kim. She’s brave, composed, and filled with hope. Obviously, there’s been a lot of pain. At several points today, she and I had shared moments of grief — some would call those moments “good cries.” One moment while walking around, a newborn’s cry was heard in the hallway. Kim wasn’t ready for that. It was a hard few moments.

At other times, we have been blessed with much grace — and a peace that passes all understanding. God has used many things to help bring this about — most notably our doula, Jaala, her sister Jen (who’s a nurse at a neighboring hospital but has joined us in this journey) and Kim’s sister Rebecca, a wedding photographer by trade who came in to photograph the delivery. These three have encouraged and strengthened Kim throughout this long day.

Granny brought the girls in for a short visit. It reinvigorated Kim.

The not-as-good news is the labor is not progressing very well. Kim and I arrived at the hospital at 6 a.m., and at the time of this writing, Kim has barely dilated further. The doctors have given her one more dose of cyotec (which will max her daily dosage out) and are hoping that’ll do the trick. Otherwise, we’ll have to try to stay comfortable through the night and give it another go tomorrow morning. One unforeseen blessing for Kim is the offering of morphine — something not available to mothers delivering live babies. This has helped ease the pain of 12 hours of contractions.

We can’t thank you enough for all of your encouragement and support. Kim reads every comment, sees every like, and praises the Lord for her dear friends — some known, some unknown. You’ll likely never know the extent of your encouragement to her soul, and the strength that it gives her. So from the bottom of her husband’s heart: Thank you.

About Kim

I am a sinner, miraculously saved by grace, living by faith, and pressing toward the mark of being more like Christ. I absolutely love being a stay-at-home mom! I'm also a caterer for a few weddings throughout the year, a baker, and a party planner. And I love to play in other people's kitchens as well as my own! My husband, Chris, just finished his studies for his MA degree in Pastoral Studies. He's a wonderful (and super smart!) daddy - and the most loving and supportive husband. My two beautiful daughters, Chloe and Kami, are the joys of our lives! We pray that they both would be greatly used of the Lord. Throughout their short time here on earth, we have learned so much about ourselves, our God, and the gratefulness we have towards our own parents, who raised us in the ways of God's Word. Our third unborn child is a blessing as well - even after its recent pre-diagnosis of Trisomy 18, or Edwards Syndrome. This blog has kinda turned into a little journal of sorts of our dark journey down this rather uncommon road. I stay busy cooking, cleaning, gardening, and raising the plants I killed back to life, and homeschooling. I blog when get the chance. :) We are always happy to have visitors, so please stop by anytime! Although, if you do give us a call first, we'll make sure to have some fresh cookies and sweet tea available when you arrive!

  1. Oh, I did not want this to be a difficult delivery physically considering that it could not be more difficult emotionally! Spiritually there is hope, but the physical and emotional components have to be so very difficult for you all especially Kim. She is “our” hero, and everyone who has followed this journey feels that way. Continuing to pray for Kim and for you, Chris, and Kami and Chloe. God bless!

  2. Chris, thank you for taking time to update us, the many whose hearts and tears are with you all. I’ve been checking the blog all evening, and I’m sure I’m not alone.

God’s grace is so evident in the way you and Kim are being sustained. Praying for labor to pick up and believing God will be faithful to do what is best for you guys, ordering even the smallest details.

The Lord just brought Jeremiah 31:25 to mind: “For I [God] have given rest to the weary and joy to the sorrowing.”

As you are experiencing the “weariness” and “sorrow” of this broken world in heart-wrenching ways tonight, I’m asking God to make you experience (even more keenly!) the “rest” and “joy” that will characterize the life on the New Earth. Praise God we can experience those realities now because of the resurrection hope we have in Christ!

  3. Thank you, Chris, for the update. We have been praying for your family today – especially Kim. Some friends of ours here in the West are praying for your family, as well. We’ll pray for rest for you all tonight.

  4. Our family is praying for you, and your family. We are praying that you will be continually surrounded by God’s Grace to walk through this as couple and as a family. Peace to you from Washington State, Jerene

  5. A friend shared your prayer request with me. I live in Missouri. I am praying for you and your family at this difficult time. Deanna

  6. We just want you to know we are praying for you and your family. Emily has been keeping us somewhat updated. ((Hugs)) along with those prayers from Wyoming and RCBC!

  8. Dear Kim,

You don’t know me, but Jamie Byrd reposted your comments on facebook and we are a friend of hers. My heart goes out to you and I do understand exactly where you are at. My husband and I gave birth to our child on 10-10-10. Her name was Isabella Anne and she was not Trisome, but Turner’s Syndrome. She was given the same prognosis as your baby at 17 weeks. She died in utero at 24 and I was induced as well.

Hold your little boy for as long as you can and get as many pictures with him as you can, no matter how deformed he may be- you will treasure the pictures always.

God’s grace is all-sufficient for this, I know firsthand and I’m am sure you have and are sensing it already. My husband and I are also in youth ministry and we will be praying for you all. Abi Bosler

  9. Sister Kim. Thank you for sharing your love for your son Kyle with those of us who have been faithfully visiting your blog and praying for you and your family. I first visited your blog this summer, as i was admiring your creativity with your Starbucks cupcakes. I was searching for information about the cupcake holders and stumbled into your life and entered your journey with you, in spirit. John 14:6a says I am the Way, the Truth and the Life. Jesus is the Truth. I am encouraged by how you led your daughters in Christ by bringing them into the Truth regarding your experience and your relationship with Kyle. What a beautiful gift you gave them by inviting them to share in celebrating their little brother’s life. I experienced Christ through you–I experienced His infinite wisdom and His Love. Through you Kim, I experienced Christ as the Truth and Christ as Life. You have been an example and an encouragement to me. I have a life situation that I had been shielding my 4 year old daughter from, for fear that she would not be able to handle it; but because of your living example, I have lovingly opened up to my daughter and brought her into the Truth of this situation and she is now experiencing Christ as Life. The Lord used you to show me how to care for my little one in Christ and according to the Truth. Be encouraged Kim. Know that Kyle enjoyed the comfort and security of his loving mommy’s womb longer than the doctors expected. I believe it was your love that kept him. When our Lord said come, he obeyed and joined our Lord in eternity. Now he is in the comfortable, secure and loving arms of Jesus! Thank you so much for sharing your love for your little guy. I felt your love for him I believe Baby Kyle felt it too. May God grace and His peace be yours in abundance! I pray that you will receive these words in the spirit in which they were given. ~Sister in the Lord, Michele

  10. Kim, Chris, Chloe, and Kami, Kyle was so blessed to have been brought into your family. No one could have loved him as well as you do. Thank you, God, for providing for us a life for eternity. Thank you , God Almighty for you continuing provision in every arena of our need. Thank you, God, that this is not all there is. I cannot wait to meet Kyle one day. Love and peace dear Rackley family! Dena Jones
